Chromebooks have become increasingly popular due to their portability and affordability.
With music production becoming more accessible with the rise of digital music software, many people are wondering whether a Chromebook is suitable for music production. When it producing music on a Chromebook you have to consider a few factors. How complex your digital audio projects will be and how many plugins you want to run on it at the same time.
One factor to consider when deciding on a laptop for music production is the specs of the device.
While most DAWs can run on any average laptop, you may find yourself wanting to upgrade if your Chromebook doesn’t have enough horsepower to keep up with your music projects.
Best DAWs will require a lot of RAM and pretty strong CPU if you wan to produce music on Chromebook.
This is especially true if you want to make music with a lot of mixing plugins.
Check that your Chromebook has adequate RAM, processor speed, audio inputs/outputs, and an appropriate storage capacity before purchasing it.
It’s also important to make sure that your DAW (music production software) is compatible with your Chromebook.
Your DAW will likely have system requirements listed on its website, so be sure to check these before purchasing a Chromebook to ensure compatibility.
Alternatively, you can try online DAWs. Some internet-based daws let you create music with only decent internet connection and basic settings.
Finally, consider the portability of the device. Chromebooks are incredibly lightweight and portable, making them great for music producers who need to work outside of their studio or on-the-go.
All of the Chromes books are capable of connecting with an USB audio interface.
The interface will minimise latency needed to operate audio plugins and DAW.
Remember, the better Chromebook specs, the better the audio interface performance.
If you are considering investing in a Chromebook for music production, make sure to do your research first as there are many different Chromebook models out there and they all vary in specifications needed for music production.
Check DAW min requirements but aim for recommended requirements if you really want to have fun and make music on a Chromebook.
